Save the Children

BACKGROUND

How can we make online safety easy to learn?

Save the Children International wants kids to learn how to live safely and happily alongside technology. But with so much advice and guidance on digital citizenship, they turned to us for help. Using the latest research, we crafted a simple, kid-friendly curriculum on digital citizenship.

Save the Children International will roll out our curriculum in after-school programs around the world in 2025.

We curated insights and created a new framework

Kids face new dangers in our digital age. The response has been a flood of research, guidelines, and advice. Like many organizations, our client was overwhelmed. So, we created a new framework focused on the most relevant and age-appropriate digital citizenship skills.

We used this framework to develop a curriculum of activities caregivers could use to teach online safety skills to kids aged 9 to 12. But to ensure these activities would resonate with kids, we had to talk to kids. Supported by regional teams on the ground, we asked young people about their online experiences, skills and knowledge gaps, and the impact of their personal devices.
