Locker Room Talk

BACKGROUND

How can we make toxic masculinity less toxic?

The non-profit Locker Room Talk trains sports coaches to combat toxic masculinity. The success of this dialogue rests on coaches genuinely connecting with players. So, we delivered learning materials that empower coaches to use their emotional intelligence to help players improve theirs.

Our curriculum and video learning materials are now a core component of Locker Room Talk’s eight-week coaches training program.

We helped coaches connect with players

Coping with powerful emotions helps boys and young men choose non-toxic behaviors. This is vitally important for those exposed to toxic notions of masculinity through sports.

We crafted a curriculum for coaches to enhance their emotional intelligence and help players do the same.

We focused on tools to help players deal with anger during and after games, navigate negative emotions about opponents, and respond in healthy ways to trash talk on the field and in the locker room.

Video-lessons to increase engagement

Working with the LRT team and talented videographers we also produced video lessons that would increase engagement and help coaches grow and develop new skills.

The curriculum is part of Locker Room Talk’s program called “Coach Journey” launching in 2022.
